Documents and depositions say that Reggie Brown told Evan Spiegel about the idea for a disappearing pictures app because Evan Spiegel had business experience. Then Brown and Spiegel brought in Bobby Murphy, who knew how to code.

The three of them worked closely together for several months, and on July 8, 2011, they launched Snapchat as "Picaboo" on the iOS platform.

Reggie Brown was fired from the company after it had been open for a few months.

The app was relaunched as Snapchat in September 2011, and the team worked on making it easier to use and fixing bugs instead of working on its brand.

One thing that wasn't changed was that "Ghostface Chillah," a mascot designed by Brown and named after Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah, was kept.

Reggie Brown sent Evan Spiegel an email on May 8, 2012, when they were both in their senior year at Stanford. In the email, he offered to renegotiate his fair share of ownership of the company.

Lawyers for Snapchat said that he had never done anything creative for the company or its product.
